| 2ND THAILAND EXHIBITION IN CAPE TOWN PROMOTES TRADE 15 to 17 Jun 2006 Pursuant to the success of its debut in Cape Town last year, the 2nd Thailand Exhibition in Cape Town will almost double in size and attractions this year and will take place from 15 – 17 June at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The expo, which promotes trade between Thailand and South Africa has, for the past five years, been an annual event on the Johannesburg calendar. The shift to Cape Town will allow South African companies in this region to explore new trade and business opportunities with their potential Thai counterparts. Mr Adisai Dhummakupt, Minister of the Office of Commercial Affairs at the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria comments: “Thailand and South Africa have a very healthy trade relationship, with the figures revealing that South Africa is Thailand’s number one trading partner in Africa and, similarly, Thailand is South Africa’s number one trading partner in the ASEAN region. The Thailand Exhibition in Cape Town will aim to encourage further trade between the two countries, by introducing Thailand and its multi-faceted export offerings to traders based in Cape Town.” The figures certainly bear out Mr Dhummakupt’s enthusiasm and demonstrate a growth rate of 32% in exports from Thailand to South Africa in 2005. The sectors that grew most markedly were those of machinery and parts thereof, which experienced growth of 235.19% and iron and steel and their derivative products which grew by 116.64%. Other top performing Thai exports to South Africa were rubber products and air conditioning equipment and parts. South Africa in turn exported goods to Thailand to the value of US$371-million in 2005, with iron, steel and derivative products topping the scorecard at US$140.3-million for the year. The area that saw the biggest growth in respect of South African exports to Thailand was that of animals and animal products, which grew 107.20% in 2005. The two countries share a mutual respect for each other that extends from shared values and visions in respect of trade to confidence in the high quality of each other’s manufactured goods. The 2nd Thailand Exhibition in Cape Town will showcase and promote Thai products and services from sectors that include: automotive parts and accessories; construction material and hardware; electrical appliances; food and beverage products; furniture; garments, textiles and fashion accessories; gifts and decorative items; health and beauty products; household and kitchenware products; leather products and footwear; machinery and equipment; printing equipment; jewellery and accessories; and health spas and resorts. A particularly noteworthy exhibit at this year’s show will be the tribute to His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, King Rama IX of Thailand, in celebration of 2006 being his 60th year of rule. His Majesty, who was born on 5 December 1927, is the world’s longest serving head of state and the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty. He is much beloved by the Thai people, and has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of Thailand. Mr Dhummakupt concludes: “The 2nd Thailand Exhibition in Cape Town will introduce South African importers, re-exporters, buyers and trade visitors to Thai companies and products and hopefully will result in relationships that will prove to be fruitful and lucrative for all parties. That is after all our goal.” The 2nd Thailand Exhibition in Cape Town is hosted by the Kingdom of Thailand and is organised by the Department of Export Promotion – Ministry of Commerce, Thailand. The exhibition is as much a meeting place for traders looking for business opportunities as it is a shopper’s paradise and a tourist’s window on the wonderful world that is Thailand. The exhibition will be open on from 09h30 – 18h00 on Thursday the 15th and Friday the 16th of June, and from 09h30 – 16h00 on Saturday the 17h of June. Thursday the 15th of June is a strictly trade day, while Friday and Saturday< For further information: ttcpretoria@telkomsa.net

| Africa Rail 2006 26 to 30 Jun 2006 Gallagher Estate, Midrand Johannesburg, South Africa
Africa Rail - Key to empowering Africa's rail industry
“The over-burden of the road system by logistics services, says Radebe, has been caused by the under-investment in rail over the last three decades. Rail has lost significant cargo market share and has died as a viable means of transport in many areas.” Engineering News, 23 May 2005
The African railways market is turning, there is immense pressure from governments to develop safe and reliable systems in Africa and billions are being spent to upgrade and develop these systems. To enhance these developments, other initiatives need to occur, Africans must unite, share information and become solution providers. There is no better place to meet and network with key African players than at Africa Rail 2006. This event provides a platform where ideas can be shared and sound business can be made.
Operating for the past 8 years, now 9 years on, Africa Rail has undoubtedly become the true voice and premier representation of Africa's developing rail industry. Year on year we witness the success and growth of this prominent event. The time has never been better for companies to tap into this unsaturated rail market.
The Africa Rail 2005 conference attracted 243 senior participants from across Africa, plus 28 senior speakers. Over 50% of delegates were of senior management, comprised of Ministers, Presidents, CEO's, Chairmen, General Managers, Directors and HOD's. Topics that were communicated included, increasing the rail sector's market share, integrating and improving the African network, growth and investment opportunities, intermodalism and seamless integration: unifying Africa's transport arteries and infrastructure management: the practicalities.
“Very well researched material and majority of speakers extremely knowledgeable and articulate in their presentations.” Timothy Titus Ndlovu, Director, Swaziland Railways
The Africa Rail exhibition doubled in size from 2004, 2005 saw the top names and key players converge for an unbelievable business-networking event. Exhibition plans for 2006 include growing the exhibition by working once again, with key partners and vendors to create a truly unique annual platform for Africa's rail industry to promote and develop itself.2005 saw the introduction and launch of the African Ports & Harbours Expo, bringing the maritime and rail industry together under one roof. Once again, in 2006, this event will be hosted alongside Africa Rail - allowing for companies and corporations involved in both sectors to showcase themselves to decision-makers from both industries.
“Earlier on, in my conference address, I referred to the need to keep an intermodal focus in our discussions. In this respect the organizers must be congratulated for bringing together Africa Rail 2005 and the African Ports & Harbours Congress and Expo 2005 in this exhibition” Opening address - Mr. Jeff Radebe, Honourable Minister of Transport, South Africa
Marked as a pivotal issue in government, intermodalism was identified and successfully implemented at Africa Rail 2005, together with the need for much more investment in rail in order to prevent the over-burden of the road system. Governments cannot tackle such issues without assistance, Africans need to lend a hand and this is presently executed through Africa Rail. A priority is to empower and develop Africa's rail transport industry.
